Community feeling at NAB, ready to combat Radio Frequency Interference
APRIL 17, 2012
At NAB, on April 16th, Newtec organised a panel discussion on “Satellite Interference and Carrier ID” with important industry leaders (Intelsat, SES, Eutelsat, DVB, sIRG, WBU-ISOG/RFI-EUI, ABC/Disney/RFI-EUI, CNN, Fox Networks).
The session room was packed! With a turnout of over a 150 people attending the panel discussion it's safe to say that this is a "hot" topic for our industry.
Satellite operators, manufacturers, industry organisation representatives and broadcasters present in the room, all shared the same feeling: our industry is working together to fight carrier interference.
By joining forces the satellite industry community is working on a solution for its customers:
- DVB, sIRG and WBU-ISOG organisations are working together to define a new standard for carrier identification.
- Satellite operators are working together to test solutions, and building a database they can mutually use to track satellite interference offenders.
- Equipment manufacturers are working together to get their equipment up to speed for the new standards.
Closing note:
Here at Newtec we believe it is important that the solution we arrive at be a standard based solution under the auspices of a recognised standardisation body such as DVB. We are happy that we have made our contribution to this initiative by organising this panel, informing those who joined us in the audience, and in that way help our customers.

Panel Discussion on Satellite Interference and Carrier ID
APRIL 16, 2012
Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is the largest single issue that impacts quality of service for satellite operators and their customers. Any outage due to RFI inevitably results in revenue losses by the broadcaster, satellite operator, or both.
At NAB, Newtec is hosting a panel discussion in which some of the most influential satellite operators and broadcasters will share their insight and opinions on this topic.
Monday, April 16th, 4.30 PM - 6 PM (Session Room S224)
Results and Conclusions of this panel discussion will be posted tomorrow!
